Among Apple’s long list of updates and new releases today, including iOS 6 and OS X 10.8.2, is a new update to OS X Lion: OS X 10.7.5! The update brings the usual bug fixes and stability improvements – but Apple also brought one of Mountain Lion’s new features to Lion with this update: Gatekeeper.
Gatekeeper is a security feature that allows users to limit what types of apps can be installed on their Macs. Considering its security implications, it’s pretty unsurprising that Apple would bring the feature to Lion rather than requiring users to update.
From Apple:
The 10.7.5 update is recommended for all OS X Lion users and includes general operating system fixes that improve the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac. It also includes Gatekeeper, a new security feature that helps you keep your Mac safe from malicious software by giving you more control over what apps are installed on your Mac.
